Chapter 01: Foundation

A century ago, behind every tool was a skilful craftsman and his array of instruments. In present days, however, efficiency is often brought by a creative thinker and his programming skills. Regardless of your profession, being equipped with the ability to program and construct your own tools would help you achieve greater productivity and conquer complex challenges inherent to any organization.

 

Programming education is now ubiquitous – it is found in the curriculum of many educational institutions and in the offerings of countless external course providers. Unfortunately, it is taught in a way where learners would often soon forget what they have learnt and is never competent in applying it in a practical setting.

 

In this course, you will learn the basics of VBA that is still widely used in banks and most organizations. Despite the growing popularity of Python, VBA is still the foundation of most infrastructures in banks and other firms. For the first iteration of this session, the emphasis would be on Global Markets. However, what is being taught will also be relevant to roles in other functions such private banking, operations, etc.

 

Unlike a generic programming course, this is a skills-based course – you will know exactly how to apply programming in your job – and explain in concrete terms to hiring managers how your newly acquired knowledge makes you useful. Hiring managers do not generally look for geniuses or people with the brightest ideas. As an entry staff or intern, you are a desirable candidate if you show you possess the willingness to learn and have the skills to improve processes. This course helps you achieve that.
